Dublin Core Metadata Initiative
The Dublin Core Metadata Initiative is an open organization engaged in the development of interoperable online metadata standards that support a broad range of purposes and business models. DCMI's activities include work on architecture and modeling, discussions and collaborative work in DCMI Communities and DCMI Task Groups, annual conferences and workshops, standards liaison, and educational efforts to promote widespread acceptance of metadata standards and practices. DC-2008: online registration now open, early bird discount until 31 July

2008-06-19, The online registration for DC-2008, to be held from 22 through 26 September in Berlin, is now open. An early bird discount will be available until 31 July 2008. Please go to the registration page for more information on the conference fees and for access to the online procedure.

New Platinum partner: Infocom Corporation

2008-06-19, The DCMI Directorate is pleased to announce that Infocom Corporation, the Japanese company that develops InfoLib, an integrated multimedia search system that is based on the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, has become a Platinum Partner in the DCMI Partnership Program.

DC-2008 preliminary program published

2008-06-09, The preliminary program for DC-2008 is now available. There are four keynote speakers on the program: On 23 September Kurt Mehlhorn (Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik) and Jennifer Trant (Archives & Museum Informatics); on 24 September Ute Schwens (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek); and on 25 September Paul Miller (Talis). Apart from the 12 papers, 8 project reports and 12 posters that have been accepted, there will be Tutorials on Monday 22 September, 18 workshop sessions on Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 September, and six seminars on Friday 26 September. The final program will be published in early July 2008.

New moderators for DCMI Libraries Community

2008-06-09, After almost five years of service, Robina Clayphan of the British Library has stepped down as moderator of the DCMI Libraries Community. The DCMI Directorate is pleased to announce that Christine Frodl of the German National Library and Stefanie Rühle of the State and University Library Göttingen have agreed to co-moderate the group. We want to thank Robina for all the work she has done over the years and wish Christine and Stefanie success in their new role.

DCMI Registry Task Group: call for participation

2008-06-09, A DCMI Registry Task Group has been set up with the primary aims of developing shared functional requirements and inter-registry interoperability issues. This group is currently recruiting participants. Those with an interest in metadata schema registries, terminology registries, ontology registries and metadata vocabulary management are invited to visit the Task Group's Wiki for further information, news, upcoming events and opportunities to contribute.
